Marina Port de Mallorca and Marina Ibiza recently welcomed the FLOT training vessel to their facilities, a 12-metre yacht forming part of the "Sailing School for Young People in Care" project, an initiative led by the Ocean of Dreams Foundation (Fundacja Ocean Marzeń) and aimed at young people from care backgrounds in Poland.
The boat, crewed by five teenagers aged between 13 and 17, alongside a captain and first officer, called at both marinas as part of a training voyage through European waters, with several stopovers at Spanish ports.
By hosting the vessel, Marina Port de Mallorca and Marina Ibiza supported a project that harnesses sailing as a powerful tool for education and personal transformation.
Aboard FLOT, academic learning is brought to life through hands-on experience at sea. Through a bespoke educational programme, the young people apply their knowledge of maths, physics, geography, biology and English in a practical setting, with learning woven into every stage of the voyage.
The project also features intensive seamanship training, with more than three hundred hours of experience at sea, covering areas such as navigation, meteorology, route planning and crew management. This experience paves the way towards professional certifications, while nurturing key skills such as responsibility, resilience, teamwork and independence.
Life on board, in a demanding environment far removed from everyday home comforts, instils core values that endure into adulthood, shaping a truly unique opportunity for personal growth.
Through initiatives such as this, Marina Port de Mallorca and Marina Ibiza underline their commitment to the community, supporting projects that deliver meaningful impact and open new pathways to the future through the sea.
