Marina Port de Mallorca and Marina Palma Cuarentena clean their seabed

Motorcycles, shopping carts, electric scooters, traffic signs, trash containers, bicycles, wheels and miscellaneous garbage have ended up becoming part of the seascape of our Mediterranean Sea. Marina Port de Mallorca and Marina Palma Cuarentena, both marinas of the IPM IMG Group, dedicate a good part of their time annually to removing this waste from this environment to which it does not belong, without wasting the opportunity to use these shocking  images to raise awareness amongst our clients of the importance of avoiding these bad habits.

Staff of both marinas with the help of the divers dedicated a morning to remove these objects from the bottom of the port which every year surprise us as to what we find.

The task began with a first dive to locate the bulkiest debris which divers mark with buoys. Little by little, the water mirror of both ports is loading yellow dots with the location of these objects.

The interesting thing is that a buoy doesnt always mark a single object, more often something similar to a large knot with several intertwined objects appears from under the water.

Other buoys, however, mark the presence of a large object such as on this last day, a motorcycle or a container. Andreas Schweimler, in charge of managing and organizing the cleaning tasks, together with the captain of the marinas, Oscar Fernández, comment that they like to make this small contribution to the environment. We know that it is not enough, but if we all help together we can change this situation a little.

Thanks to this activity and the great visual impact of seeing large objects emerge from the bottom of the sea, customers become aware of everything that is hidden under water, generating the need to recycle and prevent this type of bad habits. The question is how do all these objects get there?
